How can I stop 'index.php' from appearing in my webpage URLs?

Whenever I create a webpage other than the homepage, it seems to have ‘index.php’ in it – so, if I create an FAQ section for my app, the address will be myapp.com/index.php/faq. How can I change this so that the address is simply myapp.com/faq?
