Hi,
In the webmasters tools for our client they are receiving a 500 error for this: http://www.mgacontrols.com/wp-content/themes/agile/
We are not sure where this has come from, I know it’s the theme path but it’s never appeared on any other client’s GWMT before using different themes so we’re thinking it’s theme related?
I have tried to redirect this to the homepage but it doesn’t redirect. Do you have any idea why this is coming up? We’d really like to get it sorted.
Thanks
March 26, 2014 at 7:00 pm #5492ErnestoMemberHi, could you try to termparily change the template to one of the default templates to see if the problem subsides?
March 28, 2014 at 11:56 am #5523RaghavendraModeratorI found that this folder is being referenced in the Javascript (can see the same when you do ‘View Source’ on the site). Google is reading the text in the JS source code and trying to index it probably. Before we proceed along the path of removing this link, can you check with your client if they are using a sitemap plugin to help Google index the site? Many a times, we need to tell Google what it should be indexing and what it should not and when there is no sitemap, it can chart its own course and try to index unwanted links.
March 31, 2014 at 8:02 am #5551urbanheatherMemberHi, sorry for the late reply. The client’s website uses WordPress SEO by Yoast which does support creating sitemaps however the client has only used this for meta title and description purposes and has not uploaded any sitemap to Google Webmasters Tools.
March 31, 2014 at 8:59 am #5552RaghavendraModeratorI would recommend creating a sitemap and submitting the same in webmaster tools, even if this “problem” can be resolved.
March 31, 2014 at 9:30 am #5553urbanheatherMemberOk. I have submitted the Sitemap now so just waiting on it being processed to see what happens. Will be in touch soon, thanks.
April 2, 2014 at 10:29 am #5610urbanheatherMemberHi. I submitted the sitemap and marked the error as fixed and it’s still appearing.
April 3, 2014 at 1:25 pm #5649RaghavendraModeratorDid some research online and looks like this does occur often and best way to prevent this to block access to certain folders of the installation
Can you pls have a robots.txt created and placed in the site as per the directions in the below article?
