Gallery Items?

Sorry, if it’s a basic question, but I’ve read through the theme documentation but it’s completely unclear to me how to add items to a Gallery Page.

The “Portfolio and Gallery Page Options – How to make Portfolio and Gallery Entries” section describes adding a Gallery Page but not how to add the pictures themselves.

If the media is uploaded, and I’ve created a Gallery page, how do I select the pictures that appear?

For displaying all the gallery images you can use gallery page template and if you need to filter the gallery items then you can use show_post_snippets shortcode with taxonomy and terms.
Example shortcodes are available in themedocumentation.

I would love to use the theme gallery, not the native wordpress gallery. Just like this one: https://www.livemeshthemes.com/invent/gallery-page/

The functionality is perfect, layout too.

However, I have not found an easy way to tag all media that I want in each category. Is there an easy way to do that other than creating a new gallery page for each picture?

You can use the post snippets shortcode like this –

[show_post_snippets id="gallery-list" post_type="gallery_item" taxonomy="gallery_category" terms="inspiration,technology"post_count=12 image_size='medium' excerpt_count=100 display_title=false show_meta=false display_summary=false show_excerpt="true" hide_thumbnail="false"] 

You can give the required gallery category that you want to display using terms parameter.

Thank you for the reply, but I don’t think that’s what I’m looking for.

I know how to get a page with a gallery showing up, and the shortcode you posted helps filter it even better.

However, what I don’t know is how to take hundreds of media pictures already uploaded to my site and tag all of them with a category.

It seems the process is to create a new gallery entry for each one, and that takes way too long for each. Since I have hundreds, it’s impractical. Is there a solution?

Actually I feel you should seriously consider using a plugin like Essential Grid that can handle such a scenario. The theme gallery function is not ideal for the scenario you are describing.
