Downloaded cant install

Downloaded cant install theme.

Running WordPress 3.8.1

1st TRY
Go to themes install new theme / upload
I get the error below,
Are you sure you want to do this?

Please try again.

(Tried in Chrome and IE)

2nd TRY
copy zip up to server
unzip in /var/www/html/wp_content/themes/appdev

Get message
Broken Themes

The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.

Name Description
appdev Stylesheet is missing.

Please help me to install, i am new to wordpress but an experienced Linux Admin.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. Can you post a private reply here with a temp login to your wordpress installation?

Thanks for the help. I am now following the video.

Next hurdle is that i cannot upload the sample data. The screen goes blank. I will try more on the weekend.

If the screen goes blank, pls retry – each time you try, some data gets in. After couple of retries you should be good to go (if you are not facing severe resource restrictions on your hosting account).
